Hello and welcome to the website of Spitfire Dairy Goats. Thank you for visiting our site. The love of raising dairy goats in the Young family started in the early 1960’s when my father and grandfather began raising unregistered Nubian type dairy goats together. It was much later in 1996 that my older brother rekindled this flame of love and passion in our lives through requesting to take a dairy goat 4-H project. My father and mother purchased my older brother and I our first two goats, Nubian does. For me, at age 8, it was love at first MAA!

Since then I have learned a great deal about dairy goats.  I know what I am breeding for and I am striving to meet many goals in my herd. I breed for power, strength, and correctness of body while still maintaining good dairy character and milk production.
The Spitfire herd focuses on maintaining quality not quantity of animals therefore the herd is kept to a small manageable size.

It has come to my attention over the past several years of breeding and talking to dairy goat breeders that American and Recorded Grade dairy goats are too often degraded and overlooked when compared to Purebreds. This is not the opinion that stands here in the herd of Spitfire Dairy Goats. Americans and Purebreds both have proven to produce and perform as well as the other on the farm and in the show ring. Recorded Grades on the other hand, should be looked highly upon as Hybrids not second class animals for they bring to the table as much if not more than the Purebreds.

Purebred, American, or Recorded Grade all good herds should practice the highest level of herd management. Herd health is a top priority of the Spitfire herd. All goats are annually vaccinated with CDT, de-wormed and given BO-SE twice a year. Strict CAE (caprine arthritis encephalitis) prevention is practiced by bottle raising all kids on pasteurized milk. All kids are dehorned, vaccinated, de-wormed, and given BO-SE. The barn is kept neat and orderly and pens are regularly cleaned. I invite you to come see for yourself!
